NMD 302 week 12

This is the last week for study in New Media Advanced Studio class. At the last class, our final promotion for library were showed by each group and each group has presentation by individual. In my presentation, i introduced my part in the final production. What i response for and what problems i had come across and how can i save them. That is a good experience for me to study in this kind of class. It gives me more opportunities to interact with other students and even to learn how to communication with others. English as my second language, sometimes i really feel shy to talk with others (I have Chinese accent, my pronounce is not very well). This class provide a good situation for me to have more communication and cooperation during this semester.The thing is very important to cooperate with other students, because we have different backgrounds, different skills, sometimes we may misunderstand with each other. So, what we can do is communication and use different aspects to think the same problem. This experience will always develop my future study.

NMD 302 week11

This week is the last week for us to edit the video and produce the final verison. Yesterday morning in the class, i have almost finish the editing of my part. During the editing, I came across many problems, such as the screencasting for Libguide, Endnotes and references which is one of the parts of Jayshree's work in library. Compare with using Final Cut Pro or another software to screencast, it is more important to think about the structure of this part, hoe to show the three elements together and put them into just around 13 seconds video. The speed of screencasting cannot too quickly. If I show everything of these three elements, the time of screencasting will become longer and longer. It means that the tempo in this part will too quick to miss the important detail in this part. So Idecide to show the process of finding Libguide, Endnotes and references from library web-site. In brief, every difficult thing is an chanllenge for me. It increases my experiences of study. After the study of using FCP to edit video, i found that i can do it. Another important thing is that i should say thank you for everyone. Especially, Julie, she gives me many useful information about Jayshree. Yuri, she is my group mate, we working together. Aaron and Jerry give me a hand to finish the screencasting and final editing. Thaks a lot.

NMD 302 week 10

This monday morning, the video of each group was showed in the class and the feedback was gaven. Some parts of video were pointed that it could be edited better by using another method or change style. The things which should be changed and corrected  also were mentioned. In brief, it points the shortages and advantages for each group. The useful suggestions and commons point a advanced aspect to develop our library promotion. In my part, Firstly, i need correct the sound to normolize, otherwise, it is a big mistake so that audiences cannot hear what the people talk about. Next, i should spend time on the part which shows workshop, Endnote and Libguide of the work of Jayshree. I will use screencasting to show this part and add it into the whole video. Then, i shoule pay attention on the background which relate with Jayshree's talking and make them more clearly. So i will edit this part again and make it looks more fequency. Last i need add some effects and transitions into it. Another thing is that, two more classmates will help our group to finish the final assisgment. Thaks for help.

NMD 302 week 9

This week, our group work on editing about liaison librarians and research services coordinator. From the editing, we review the films which we had already done before a few weeks. We found a terrible mistake which exists in the shooting about liaison librarians. Something wrong with the focus setting of camera, so that final frame shows a low quality and not clearly. In order to correct this situation and catch up with others groups, we decide to refilm this part at friday morning after the class. Athough we have to refilm the liaison librarians, we get more experiences of studying from this mistake. From now, we finish the filming about liaison librarians and coordinator, starting to edit the clips and put them together. This weekend we need to keep going on the editing of the clips. Although our work include lots of details, everything should be all right.

NMD 302 WEEK 8

This week, we took film with Jayshree who is the research services coordinator in library. Jayshree provides research services for a PHD students which research crocodile eggs. This is the one by one supports for PHD students by Jayshree. In addition, we film an interview with Jayshree. She explains the part which coordinator provides for Phd students and what she does in library. We separate the different part of Jayshree' s supporting and film each of them. In order to get high quality clips, we also record the voice of Jayshree at the time with filming.  Now, we already finish all the filming with liaison librarians and reseach services coordinator. After this, we start to edit the clips with Final Cut Pro and Soundtruck. We also need screencasting in our final assignment to show the libguide, endnotes and some specific detail about liaisons and coordinator. Today, we try to use screenflow to do the screencasting. Then, we will edit the screencasting into the interview filming and to connect with the filming. Using screencasting to show the things that liaison and coordinator talk about in the film.

NMD 302 week 7

This week our group will keep going to shoot films about liaison librarians. Monday afternoon, we had a interview shooting with Bernadette and recorded her voice as well. In order to edit each part easily and accurately, we separated video and audio when we recorded them, Bernadette explained the things that CDU liaison librarians support for students and staffs. We also stimulated some working situations about liaison librarians, such as Bernadette provides help for student, answer the questions one by one and Julie answers the phone. Then we would like to use Screen Flow to screencast Endnote, Libguide, Ask us and Online library. The shooting interview with Bernadette as the foreground at the corner of our final screen, screencasting which are related to the talking of Bernadette will be added to the background.

NMD 302 week6

At Monday morning,the "story board" were introduced by each group. Good ideas and shortages were pointed. From the discussion, our group decided to divide our story-board into two parts which are Liaison Librarians and Research Services Coordinator. From the help of Eric and Julie, what we need to do is quite clearly and their suggestions are very useful to make our complicated work more sample.
This week our group concentrate in the first parts-Liaison Librarians. Firstly, we need show the different responsibilities of liaisons, such as Education, Law, Health and Business. Next, liaisons provide help to teach students how to use the CDU library website and show the different functions of online library, especially the "trainning class". After that, we also need to mention that Endnotes and Libguide on the library website. Ebooks and online tutorial are included by Libguide. At this part, we prepare using screen shoots to show their functions. Last one is that the contact information with liaison librarians. They have public email address, phone number on the library website and even provide the help for students one on one.
We already have a conversation with Bernadette who is one of the liaison librarians. we will organize one day to interview with her. Another thing is that this friday, we will go to the trainning class in library and start shooting this part.

NMD 302 week 5

This week, from the research of CDU library, library services were divided into 5 sections which were
1. Distance Services
2. Leraning Precincts&wireless area, Short Term Loans(STL), Printing
3. Borrowing, Special Collection
4. Liaison Librarians/Services, Research Services Coordinator
5. Welcome tour.
We were separated into 5 groups to do each work with our partner. My group is responsible for the part is that Liaison Librarians/Services, Research Services Coordinator.We need to show the detail about staff in library services and provide assistance to students, such as training class in library. How to use the resources and explain the different use of facilities in CDU library are introducted by liaison librarians. In brief, what we need to do is that using video and audio to show the work of liaison in CDU library. in order to know more, we went to library. Eric, Julle and Shelly introduce the different parts of library and their different functions. It gives us a clearly structure to create the storyboard with our groups.

NMD 302 week 4

This week we have Video and Audio quick tests. From the test, i found some knowledge are easy to study, but forget quickly. So, it reminds me to do more practise during study, review the knowledge which i had already known and understand them. After the test, we readay to do the research about CDU library promotion video. Firstly, making a plan. We have a communication to make sure what we can do and to find some tutorial about library video or audio to share with each other. After the conversation, we were showed the 3D-"ART GALLERY" and "Chinese Garden" in CDU. From the introduction, we know about that how the 3D works and what the differences between 3D and normal movies.

In my opinion, i prefer this movie "Smart people Smart library". From this movie, author use book dominoes as a thread. Follow the books dominoes, we are introduced form information desk to other different reading rooms. According to the move direction of books, it shows the structure and function of this library. It is a interestiong way to introduce library and its music make me want to know more about the it. powerful music. This advertisment style could attract more attentation from people.

This movie describes some small stories which happen in the different parts of library. From the interesting stories, it shows the functions of reading room, quite studying room and some regulations of library. It looks like a old movie and illustrates a relaxed atmosphere in library. The background is from day to night.

This movie also introduces the structure and function of library. But as an audience, i pay more attentation on the two tours' conversation and activity than library.  When the staffs illustrate the information about library, i feel boring. I think they speaking too much. Library is a quite place to study. Sometimes, pelple can understand the meaning just from a image without any words.

The study of this week is quite complicated. The introduction is about what the sound is, sample rate and bit rate use in different requirements. We study how to edit the sound by using Soundtrack Pro. It shows the amplitude of a clip and the frequencies contained by a clip. Firstly, we need send the selected clip to Soundtract Pro. Then, we need to concentrate on the sound to delete the noise and edit it sounds more frequently. What we can do in this part is that choose the line which we can edit the sound. Using Add a Marker to confirm the part and highlight them. Open Process,  choose Set Ambient Noise Print to copy this part first, then Replace With Ambient Noise to another part which is the noise. At last, save it and connect it with the video.

NMD 302 week 2

This week, we start with the introduction to FCP. Using The Final Cut Pro Workflow edit audios that is divided into two steps, editing phase and polishing phase. Secondly, naming convention is starting with the client name, then use the project number and your initials for naming of files in the final. One of the most important things is that how to use the Final Cut Pro to edit audio. We learn how to choose setup, system settings and set user preferences in FCP. In addition, we learn some basic functions of FCP, such as set a new project, set a sequence, add clips to timeline, move clips and the use of hot keys. The last thing is that create a transition between clips. These are all what we learn this week, it has a big fun to study with FCP.

NMD 302 week 1

This is my first week that i study in CDU and i miss the first class about NMD 302 (New Meida Advanced Studio) because of time crush with my units. Sorry about that. Anyway, i have already know some informations about the course from my friendly classmates and the document of week1.

We got the study plan for every week that is very good for us to make a good time management and prepare for assessments. Another important thing is that we will make a library promotion video. The thing is that to edit a video for the library. We need to make a plan to do this step by step.
